Dog Training : I'm the alpha dog!!

I notice whenever someone uses this term or the word dominance, there is a whole team of people appearing to bring this person down. I don't see anything wrong with this word, to me, it means control. Do you have control over your dog/dogs/pack?

There are many training methods going on. Each of them have their pros and cons. Make sure you do your research to each and everyone before you decide which is best for your dog. Not best for the human. Humans are idealist. They want the perfect dog, with great social skills that knows a million tricks.

There are a lot of people out there that is adopting the more recent training methods and is trying their best to push the "old" training method out of the window.

And this is irritating because they only want to stick to one style and sometimes even condemn others.

Think about it, as a students ourselves when we are young, we all have different styles of learning. Same goes for dogs. Some dogs are motivated by food, some toys, some actually react very well with just a praise!

We react well to positive. Please understand we also react well to negative. "Spare the rod and spoil the child" I believe many of us hear about this. I'm saying to use punishment and every point. But use it when needed. I have seen some trainers where a dog is irritating another dog and the trainer say to ignore the behavior, and wait until the dog notice you then you praise the dog. Question is what if the dog finds it more fun to irritate then to come to you?? So how long do we wait for the dog to realise that we are better or wait till the other dog is so irritated, he snap at the dog, creating a fight and we blame the dogs for not being sociable.

There is no leader!!!
lets see, we use to think that the dogs is evolved from the wolves, i know research has found out that it is otherwise. but regardless of which primitive animal they came from, i believe they run in a pack. A pack runs in a hierarchy. I read from somewhere that there is no one leader that controls everything that happen in a wild pack. But is a group working together.

I believe in that, but our dogs are living in a environment where it is ruled by humans. Are we going to lie to ourselves that the dogs know better than us about what is going on? With my dogs, i gave them 1 rule. My rule. If I say no, they have to listen. I'm don't want to have a grey area. I have deal with a pack of 30 dogs at a time in a playpen before for 4 years. So don't come telling me I have not train dogs before.

Example: When i walk my dog and another dog appear and begins to charge at my dog, i want my dog to trust me to handle the situation, and not he have to charge and take over because me as the owner is freaking out. This is what I mean by being the leader of the pack.

I can give other examples, like when some dogs are scare of other dogs or other triggers that cause the dog to lunge, to attack, to flee. What if the dog has learn that you are in charge and he can leave the decision of whether something is safe or not to you, won't we avoid many accident?

My point is be flexible. Do your research. Explore other possibilities. Don't be too sensitive when people are airing their point of view.

My future boy ^^
